I've sight fished for trout before at Boyne, where I saw a couple of pools with many small bows, but this was different. With the sun lighting up my blue coat like a warning sign, I had to move slow as a chameleon to sneak up on this guy. It took some time and a fly change or two, and success was achieved. Continuing past the previous landowners posted land, I thought I had found a section that was public, complete with a tantalizing pool, but in the end I believe this was just another owners land. Unfortunately there were impassable sections without hopping up on the banks so this would be the last time I make it this far up.

After figuring out that dredging deep was the key today, I came upon the last really deep pool of this section, and unleashed some long casts into a difficult run. The complex currents made the drifts challenging, but after losing a couple of flies, this 14" brown was my prize.

I know as fishermen, nearly each and every fish landed brings out a "Beautiful fish!" from us, but I think this little work of art does stand a bit higher on the pedestal.

The trout season truly started for me today! My favourite Notty spot (honestly one of the ONLY accessible and good spots I've found...) called for me today, and gave me some new experiences. Despite arriving first at 6:30am, quite a number of people showed up here. I later found out most of them were friends of the landowner that owned the land on both sides of the stream. Thankfully I was ok to fish as long as I don't touch the dry land according to the owner after a cordial conversation. Being so early in the season, I expected more willing fish than I found, but reality hit a little different. Slow, deep and thorough was the ticket, and quality was the game today, as most of these fish were gorgeous. These few photos show the 3 that I netted nearly right away, the rest deserve their own posts.
