No smallmouth wanted to bite today so I resorted to some largemouth. Got one decent one and a little guy that wanted the spinnerbait vertically jigged. Broke off one of my favorite spinnerbaits on presumably a dump truck.

First bass of the year after heading back home for spring break. Had a few unsuccessful outings in Montreal and the Mohawk River over the weekend so it felt good to get on the board for the first time in a while.

Frog fishing is ADDICTING. Two weeks ago I landed my first fish ever on a frog, and I think I’m starting to get a hang of it now. This catch includes two separate days of fishing and four total fish on frogs. I racked up probably a combined two dozen bites on the frog between these days but I’m still glad I managed to put my hooks in a few. Today was an interesting day as the pond I’ve been visiting lately was completely flooded. I caught two frog-eating largemouth that both ate in the literal parking area that is now two feet underwater.

Today I made it out to a little lake near home that I hadn’t tried yet and had an incredible evening of fishing. I was able to land about a dozen largemouth with the biggest being around two pounds. I had been eyeing up a species of fish that I hadn’t caught before and was wondering when I’d have an encounter with one, and today luck was on my side. My very first fish of the day was a new species, the Green-gill Hybrid. I managed to land about half a dozen of them with the biggest being a staggering three quarters of a pound. For the entirety of my fishing session I used a little senko and on the very last cast I hooked and landed the fattest channel catfish I have ever seen. It was also one of only three channel catfish that I’ve ever caught on artificial lures.

Caught 4 different species this evening at Scotts Run. A lot of decent crappie as well. Caught all of them on a trout magnet
