Got skunked fishing for catfish at the spillway. Last cast on the causeway got me a bluegill!

I’ve gotten out plenty over the past week but haven’t gotten anything too spectacular. Two somewhat successful catfish sessions and some trout and bass action. Tons of species though, these are just a few of them and the highlights of my recent trips. Today’s fish included a nice largemouth and some trout, and I had an encounter with a very large palomino. I estimate that it was at least 18 inches and would qualify for a personal best. This fish legitimately followed me in every single cast for a solid 20 minutes. I eventually gave up and determined that I would come back another day in hopes of more aggression.

Caught a weird slimy creature today. This is only my third ever eel and he ate my nightcrawler off the bottom. I got a baby channel kitty on the worms as well. No snakeheads this time but another fisherman at the dam got one. The weather was absolutely brutal today.

Today I had the pleasure of crossing paths with my beloved invasive dragon fish! Caught one little one on the swimbait, a channel catfish, and a bunch of shad that are going to be used for bait tonight. It was well worth the 4:30 wake up!

Snakehead!!! Today I did some frogging off the kayak at a lake about an hour from me and had an incredible day on the water. I caught four largemouth bass and a beautiful Northern Snakehead! This makes species number two on the frog. I had probably over a dozen blow ups on the frog, so my success rate wasn’t terrible, but there were definitely some much larger fish that I missed. I completely understand why these things are nicknamed “frankenfish”. I went to ethically dispatch of this invasive critter with a clean knife to the head. After some time of fiddling around trying to tie the fish down to my kayak in hopes of offering its precious meat to a bystander, it flipped out, shaking the knife out of its head and swimming off to the depths like nothing happened. Unbelievable… After the successful day on the kayak, I decided to target some striped bass at a different location and I lucked out with two small ones. I also hooked two catfish that both put me in snags and came off.
