The one-fish limit for tautog creates an interesting dynamic: once an angler catches and harvests their legal keeper, their tog fishing day is essentially over. If they have unused bait, a lucky nearby angler often gets an unexpected bonus. That lucky angler was me. I inherited more than two dozen green crabs. I had planned to fish until sundown, but I barely made a dent in my bait bounty when I caught this keeper tog. Following the cycle, I passed my big bag of remaining green crabs on to the anglers next to me before heading home with dinner.

The usual crab eating suspects in today's Jersey shore trip. Togs and black seabass. No keepers.
