They were lovin the paddle tails today

Third bass hooked, and the only one landed today. Nowhere near as big as the 2 lost :( Luckily I had my wading clothing on. These fish were only really accessible from the island. Everyone from the shore walked away empty handed

My first bowfin!!! Quite a tough day for bass. Blue bird sky and day after opener. I managed to lose 2 x 4/5lb largies like an idiot. I wasted a bunch of time in the morning casting into an empty pool. After making my way to the island with a bird's eye view, I realized there were quite a few large fish sitting in the deep section just in front. out of reach from the other shore. At least a couple of the small mouth were prob 20"+ Unfortunately they did not show any interest in any sort plastic I threw and only the largemouth and rock bass seemed hungry. After trying and failing to entice any action for a while, hooking and losing a 4/5lb bass on a small Clouser minnow fly (forgot to set the hook 🤦‍♂️) I moved right to the waters edge and tried jigging with paddle tails. The bass were lethargic, but this guy played ball! After an intense close up fight, I finally get him into my little trout net. He weighed around 3¼lbs.
