#catch26 #catch2026 ***NEW SPECIES ALERT!*** Apologies for the late post, but didn’t have signal at the time. Also, this was from yesterday morning before the rainy storm. Just went to my favourite local spot I go every year for some pike and maybe some largies, but instead, learned some true uncovered discoveries I would not expect to find. For brief context, this may be one of the weakest years of fishing from this spot in terms of performance or action rate, but this catch more than makes up for it. Crazy to believe this is my first ever black crappie (let alone a crappie) while fishing for any morning pike on a knock-off Flash Tomphson spoon. Can’t complain because this was a very impressive catch and has not been easy to catch one personally when I try to target it. This beauty was safely released and swam calmly. Even crazier, more discoveries are made by confirming that two rare species of fish live in this river (which I will not give the name for safety reasons): The walleye and the most surprising and intriguing, the legendary bowfin. As much as I love to catch these gems, fishing has been extremely hard especially with the heavy rain going on today (by making this post) since the morning before and after dawn. Even the evening before, alongside even this afternoon during the rain didn’t do much unfortunately. Overall, what turned out to be a fun trip became a very fascinating case study of new opportunities now revealed and discovered. But productivity and action wise, truly a “crappie” morning (pun intended) and I mean in a good way. I’ll be done for the summer Ontario season but who knows… May see you before or at fall for salmon.
