Kayak fish tomales bay, targeting halibut. It looks tranquil, and it was beautiful, but I underestimated the effect of the tidal current, which was compounded by the wind. That’s about the hardest I’ve paddled for hours just to stay in one spot. It’s a dynamic environment and I learned a lot, I hope to fish it again sometime now that I have more knowledge. Caught a small shiner perch, which I then used for bait. Using that, I had a big hookup which went on a screaming run. It would’ve spooled, so I had to tighten up at which point it sliced the braid like butter. It could have been a big ray (they have plenty of 80-100 pounders there) but the way it sliced I think it was most likely a shark as there are several species common there. #CatchKing
