North Pacific Ocean (US/CA)

Kayak fish Santa Cruz. Launched from the wharf and paddled to kelp beds at the end of steamer lane, which is a famous surf break. Caught a kelp rockfish, black and yellow rockfish, and kelp greenling. The greenling was a particularly red male specimen. Saw several otters. Got up close to some big sea lions at the launch. A short and fun session. #catchking

Arrived to Cali for daughter’s wedding, walked down to the beach and caught my PB striper at 23”. Then caught a new PB of 30.25”. Lots of weeds in the surf, so I switched lures to one of my all-time classic favorites which slides through them better than most, and casts as far as anything in my tackle box. The 30-incher definitely pulled some drag, and was a challenge to land in the surf. Landed one jacksmelt, which is likely what the stripers were chasing. 18”+ striper is a keeper in CA but I released all. Might try to catch some dinner this week after wedding.
