Although Reece wanted to come out, the cold in the morning wasn't for him and dulled his enthusiasm to actually fish. Nonetheless, I kept changing his lines out. Eventually, his line ripped off, and the energy levels were past 100%. But something was wrong, his line was stuck, but I wasn't going to allow him to lose this fish. So I stripped down to my undies and waded into the frigid waters. Low and behold, I got the line unstuck, and Reece managed to land this beautiful looking yellow.

After my last catches, the wind picked up, and it got much colder. And the bite also dropped away. After trying a few different combos, I pumped two lines as deep as possible loaded with some Paint, Lodewyk and Banana on the ball and a Banana pip, floaty on the #3 hook. It wasn't too long, and my right-hand reel screamed off, and the fight was on. Unfortunately, I must have either casted over myself in the wind or the fish crossed the other line, but I landed up with a huge mess on the line. Lucky i netted the carp, uncooked the trace, and miraculously got the tangled mess sorted out in a jiffy. I must say, Reece was a great help.

Moments later, as I was still redoing my rig from the previous catch, my right line screamed off. Up and till then, I was using a single bottom hook Rietvlei rig with two small banana floaties and a soft banana dough backing and banana garlic spray on the ball. This line was cast as far as possible.

When we arrived at the water, there was no fish showing, but as it got a little warmer, there was some showing, especially one just to the left of my setup in the margins. The bite was very slow, and I decided to put my line in that margin area. Low and behold, this Common took off like a chainsaw in the woods, and I managed to get it in for a picture or two for prosperity.

What do you do when you get home from work on Saturday, and your son asks when we can go fishing? You pack the car and set off the next morning to Boschkop. Lines were in as soon as possible, and I was still busy with the gazebo when my lefthand rod broke the morning silence with a very welcoming reelrun. I waded in to net as the water was quite cold and landed this feisty Common.
