This toothy nightmare decided to crash the party today. He cleared the water on the first strike and tail whipped my frog back towards the yak. I immediately retrieved and made another cast into the same spot and he inhaled it. Seemed like he was waiting for it. 😆Awesome sequence and great fight through the weeds! 👊

Nice one on the Bullet Popper. 👊

It’s top-water time on Kent. The Berkley Bullet Popper is deadly. A lot of anglers will only cast into open water looking for a long retrieve or to avoid getting hung up in the vegetation with double trebles. I like to go against the grain and throw it right into the slop. Look for any small openings between the pads or weeds. They will usually hit it on the first twitch. Takes patience, cleaning the weeds off your hooks and a lot of casts but it produces some of the most violent strikes. 👊

Epic sequence with this tank. I could see his wake as he made a beeline for my popper the second it hit the water. Blew it up from behind on the first strike but missed. Hit it again from the side and missed. It took every ounce of control not to jerk the rod and I was rewarded when he got it on the third try. Top-water is my favorite technique. 👊

Had to work for them today, but the top-water pattern is producing. Doesn’t seem to matter what time of day either. I was throwing into areas of shadow from overhanging trees or making long casts along weed lines to make sure they couldn’t see the shadow of my rod and line. Get that slack out before you set the hook.
