Chilson Impoundment

Reached Flow State at Chilson Impoundment today. It was a slow start and strikes were hard to come by, but once the rain and wind let up, it was like someone flipped a switch and the bite was on. Took the big one on a Berkley Bullet Popper in a spectacular blow-up. She cleared the water on a vicious strike and headed for the lily pads. I immediately dropped my rod tip below the water and applied pressure to keep her from jumping and was able to steer her into open water and eventually to the yak. These are the catches that keep you coming back! 👊🎣🙏

The thunderstorm had just rolled out and the water was like glass. That means the top-water bite was on. This lake is thick with every type of vegetation right now. Very little open water to work with. But, an accurate cast with a popper and a tight drag proved to be the right set up. Some of the most aggressive strikes I’ve seen this season. 👊

Fished a new spot today. Took a minute to figure them out but coaxed some decent fish to strike. Chilson is ridiculously choked with Lillies, Hydrilla and just about every other freshwater aquatic plant, but there is a spot on the Pond side that is wide open. I used a Plopper as a search bait around sections of Lilly pads. When I got a strike or swirl, I threw a Senko to the same exact spot. Bam! @RolandMartin taught me that trick on a trip I took with him a while back. Never too old to learn. 👊
