St. Lawrence River

Had a great day in Montreal today fishing for walleye and sturgeon. The sturgeon bite was far slower than usual and I only managed one, shortly after sunrise. At around noon, I made my way to a canal that typically provides some walleye, and sure enough, I landed 4 in about 45 minutes. One of them was likely my smallest ever that somehow got a hold of my 3” swimbait. I even ran into Gino Rosauri who graciously gifted me some of his prized Powerbait minnows. Can’t wait until I can head back to Montreal in search of another big sturgeon!

First Black Crappie

Yesterday I got to fish one of my favorite fisheries for Lake Sturgeon. I hit the water about an hour before sunrise and started soaking my worms. Very quickly I landed my first lake sturgeon of the day, and about 30 minutes later, another. These would be the only two of the day, both biting before sunrise and the largest weighing about 5lbs. After sunrise, I could only tempt the catfish. My first catfish of the day was a new official Personal Best, weighing 10lbs 12oz! I would catch three more in the 5 hours that followed, all with extremely fully bellies. I also managed to catch a yellow perch, and since the hole I was fishing was so deep, he had barotrauma after landing him. I also spent some time on the Canal Lachine where I partook in some goby control.
