#CatchKing It was a usual day fishing the Sullivans Island surf for sharks and anything else willing to take our baits. Earlier in the day I decided to put a whole 6-8 inch southern ray out for bait. While it was soaking we ended up catching 4 other sharks 3-5ft on whiting and bluefish. After about 4 hours in the water I started to give up on the stingray but decided to leave it in while I started to break down the rest of the gear. All of a sudden I looked up, the rod was bent and the line was peeling so I quickly ran over to it to get ready. As soon as I got near the rod it dropped the bait. I decided to leave it just in case the ray was still on. After about 1-2 minutes it circled back, picked it up and started running again. After about 20-30 seconds of line peeling I tightened the drag and set the hook. The way the rod bent I knew it wasn't the typical 4-5 ft sharks we usually catch. After a 6-7 minute battle I was able to get it on the beach. One of the biggest sharks I've caught surf casting so far. As soon as I set the hook the blacktip jumped completely out of the water and my adrenaline went crazy. What a fun battle! Penn Spinfisher VII 10500 + Triple City Anglers 10ft Force Rod.
