Had a plan going into the morning to go up shallow and swing the big sticks since the water was up at Seneca and managed to find a few decent ones. I was really hoping to get on a frog/flipping bite but it just didn’t happen. Instead I still got to catch fish on some of my favorite lures! . . Got to the lake later this afternoon and put in for about 2 hours to check water conditions and a particular area of the lake to see if bass were still guarding fry. 40 degrees when I launched the boat. Water temperature was around 65 after being in the low 70s just last weekend. It was a brutally tough especially in the early morning hours but still managed to find a few decent ones. Also managed to hook into a hammer of a crappie as a little bonus bite. I’m also slightly convinced that I can’t catch fish on anything other than a chatterbait. 😂 . . It’s been awhile! It’s been probably 3 weeks since I’ve had the boat out while I’ve been dealing with some back troubles. I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and had to give a shot. It was miserably windy and I only could handle about 3 hours on the water but man was it fun! I was able to find some semi calm water and they were absolutely choking the chatterbait! . . A major key to catching these fish was not straight retrieving the chatterbait. In fact I caught about half of them pitching the chatterbait up near cover, letting it sink to the bottom, and then snapping it up off the bottom. . . After the absolute suck fest that I’ve put on at Seneca this year, I just decided to go back to doing what I’m good at. After the warm night I locked the chatterbait in my hand and went shallow and went to work. Once I got back to an area where a chatterbait just couldn’t make it through, I picked up the swim jig and literally winched fish out of the jungle. . .
