Took a break from bass today and was playing with the ultralight. Nice yellow perch on first cast, then a few minutes later an absolute tank of a bluegill hit it and put up a hell of a fight. Just a 1/4” shy of a state pin. Another couple of smaller gills to cap the afternoon.

I’m increasingly convinced that there’s absolutely nothing you can’t catch on a beetle spin.

Went out for some panfish with my daughter tonight. It’s rare that I get excited about a bluegill, but this was the most colorful one I’ve seen in long time!

Some good crappie here last few days while fishing with kids. One even hit a topwater spook. Some larger gills to be found too. Bass are hiding just out of reach, though…

Fun day kayaking. Slow bass bite with just one, but panfish were hitting the ultralight on almost every cast in between. Half a dozen white perch, several crappie, and a bunch of sunfish.
