Yesterday I headed out to the Susquehanna in hopes of getting on a school of stripers. I found said school of stripers, but before I could cast at them, I was yelled at with a megaphone from a half mile across the river. Apparently I wasn’t able to walk in the water in a small section of river, even though the only sign in the area specified “no boats beyond this point”. I was told to move down river where I found a few smallmouth on my spook and no stripers. Still, I headed to a spot I had some confidence in catching a snakehead and threw out some live minnows. It took a while but I finally had a taker and landed this little snakehead.

Another epic frogging session today on the kayak! This time I decided to downsize my frog since I was missing so many snakehead last time. It kinda worked in the fact that it got way more bites, but I still whiffed numerous snakeheads. After about two and a half hours I managed to land this beautiful snakehead that bit three times before he fully engulfed it. The bass were extremely aggressive today and I caught about six with the biggest coming in at three pounds. Since this frog was so small, I was throwing it on my medium light rod, so it made the fights way more intense.

Today I underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL that I sustained in February while skiing. This unfortunately means that I won’t be able to fish for quite some time. In order to recollect and relive some of my past fishing experiences, I decided that I am going to post some older catches that I either didn’t get around to posting or ones that previously didn’t make the cut. By doing this, I hope to take my mind off of things during recovery and get my excitement up for the next time I’m able to hit the water. Oh and here’s a little clip from the day of my incident ;). OLD CATCH #1: These catches were quite recent actually, just from this Tuesday. My goal that day was to catch another Snakehead, which I spent almost 12 hours trying to do. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful with my goal, however I did manage to get the skunk out of the way. I mainly threw very large baits to attract these Snakehead, which inevitably resulted in me foul hooking a couple shad. Surprisingly on one occasion, I was letting my 7 inch glidebait sink to the bottom, and all of a sudden a fish hit my lure. It turned out a shad tried eating my massive lure as it was falling and managed to get a single hook in its mouth. So in my books, that one counts lol. After struggling to hook a snakehead with the big baits, I decided to try and get my confidence back up by throwing a trout magnet for anything that would be willing to bite. This worked quite well and I was able to catch a few smaller bass and a brown bullhead. I then found smaller section of creek just across the way from the main spillway, where I managed to get onto an incredible black crappie bite, for about 10 whole minutes, I was hooking fish almost every cast. Even though they were all pretty small and fought like a wet paper towel, it was extremely fun. In the end I did have a few bites on the big baits that I believed could have been Snakehead, but it seemed like they weren’t fully committing, or maybe my lures were too big lol.
