Ryan Jones At Poultney River
Today I decided to head 1.5 hours south in search of some new species. Although both were very much so present, I managed to catch every other fish in the river besides the longnose gar and redhorse. Landed 4 species, 3 black crappies, 2 rock bass, 2 smallmouth, and a bluegill, all on the fly rod. Moat of the day I switched between targeting gar and targeting the redhorse, both on the fly and spin fishing. I got a small gar to snap at my crankbait, but other than that, they were not interested. The redhorse also did not care what I put in front of them, they wouldnt bite either, even though there was probably 50 fish in the set of riffles I was fishing. I plan on making my way back down there at the end of this week to try again. If anyone has any tips for catching either species, lmk.
