Dez Bass At Six Mile Lake
Huge pike caught on a spinner bait

2nd day of the yak weekend. Tried SML today. Kind of wish I went back to Gib for the warmer day. For most of the day, I couldn't locate ANY bass. The pike seemed to like the cold though, and I hooked a handful. It took way too long and braving some large waves from boat wakes to find 1 spot where water seemed to flow in from the open lake to the more sheltered areas. I saw a bunch of baby bass holding in front of some weeds, then noticed some bigger ones deeper down. 1 larger specimen, maybe 2.5lbs almost got hooked on the jerkbait but no hooks connected before he noticed me and swam off. Met another yak angler who also had near 0 luck

1st of the 3 day yaking trip. Back to my favourite lake for a really chilly day. The fishing was difficult. I only managed to locate them in 1 area. When I pulled up the bigger pike, a massive smallie followed it up to the yak. Must've been 4~5lbs. Wielding the pike rod with my left hand, I tried to entice it with a second rod with a Ned. Unfortunately the smallie showed no interest :(

Went back up to my current favourite lake, trying for a redemption with the monster from the deep. It did not happen today, but was still fun with over a dozen little guys landed and a single smallie around 2¾lbs. Almost all on the ned today. Perhaps the lower temp and incoming rain had something to do with it? It turned out to be a real pikey day with the hammer handles. I lost quite a few neds to the little F'ers... I'm pretty sure I hooked a big one on a "fully cover the area" cast on the shallow side of a handful of lily pads. It dove directly into the pads and I had no idea what to do as it dug in and shook its head to saw through my line. This was today's heart breaker. Also installed a new Boonedox aluminum rudder. Install was ass, finagling with the spring but the turning was slightly improved and tracking is more solid overall. pretty decent deal seeing as it was 20usd, only 1/3 the original price for some reason.
